Description: “Do you believe that the National Guard came and ripped me off?” (1977)
At this point in time in Hawaii, the National Guard was taking peoples' plants, but they would make no arrests. There were rumors that the following year, bud was miraculously on the street! However, the growers hadn't harvested their crops for the year - so think about it; you tell me: Where did the pot come from? Yep, the National Guard ripped many people off.
Notice the little poster that says, 'Liberate Marijuana, Grow you own!' After I finished this drawing, I felt guilty for not growing my own. I was proud when I started growing my own marijuana. I guess you could say that I took my own advice.
You'll notice in this piece that I use the artifice of turned backs, truncated torsos, and such to conceal the identities of the persons in the drawing.
